From Our Backyard Flock
to P3 Avian Genetics
The idea for P3 Avian Genetics began in our own backyard.
What started as a small family hobby quickly grew into a passion for building a diverse, healthy flock. Along the way, we experienced one of the most common frustrations faced by backyard poultry owners: discovering months later that a bird sold as a pullet had matured into a rooster.
Beyond the cost of feed, housing, and care was the emotional reality of saying goodbye to birds that had become part of our family.
That experience revealed a larger problem. While DNA testing has long been available to commercial poultry operations, affordable, breeder-focused genetic testing has remained largely out of reach for backyard flocks, small breeding programs, and conservation breeders.
P3 Avian Genetics was created to change that.

Regina Dawson is a disabled U.S. Navy Nurse Corps veteran, registered nurse, healthcare executive, and lifelong animal enthusiast with more than 30 years of experience leading quality, safety, and regulatory programs in highly regulated healthcare environments.
Her background includes executive leadership in patient safety, healthcare quality, risk management, regulatory compliance, and continuous process improvement, complemented by a Juris Doctor with a concentration in Health Law.
Today, Regina applies those same principles—precision, validation, quality control, documentation, and accountability—to every aspect of P3 Avian Genetics.
