Description
The Recessive White Gene Test helps breeders identify whether a bird carries the recessive white allele (c) associated with recessive white feather coloration.
This test is designed for breeders who want to confirm carrier status, better understand visually white birds, or make more informed breeding decisions. Because the recessive white gene can mask other feather color and pattern genetics, DNA testing provides valuable genetic insight beyond visual appearance.
Possible Results
- c/c – Homozygous Recessive White
- C/c – Carrier of Recessive White
- C/C – Does Not Carry Recessive White
This Test May Help Confirm
- The presence or absence of the recessive white allele
- Whether a bird carries one or two copies of the recessive white gene
- Whether a visually white bird is genetically recessive white
- Breeding decisions related to recessive white genetics
This Test Does Not Confirm
- Dominant white genetics
- Other white or dilution genes
- Hidden feather color or pattern genetics beneath white plumage
- Other unrelated feather color modifiers
After purchasing the test, customers must enter their sample information through the Customer Portal, create a batch, generate a Batch Slip, label each sample, and mail the samples to the laboratory. Once testing is complete, results will be available through the customer dashboard.
Sample Type
A dried blood sample collected on the tip of a clean coffee filter or on a small piece of plain printer paper is recommended.
Please visit our Sample Collection page for step-by-step instructions before mailing your samples.
Turnaround Time
Testing begins after the samples are received and logged by the laboratory.
Customers will receive updates through the Customer Portal and/or by email when the samples are received and when the results are ready.
